New audios have arrived at Annie’s!! Up first is Dark Eyes. The highly ancipated return of Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor. With a new mission from the Time Lords, a new companion in WWI nurse Molly O’Sullivan and a brand new costume first introduced at a convention in New Zealand.
Dark Eyes picks up where 2011’s To The Death has left off. Paul McGann had appeared previous to this in a trilogy of audio adventures alongside horror writer Mary Shelley which took place prior to his Big Finish debut Storm Warnings. This, however, is the first story for his Doctor to take place in the normal continuity for the Eighth Doctor.
The Doctor is looking for hope after the deaths of his companions Lucie Miller, Tasmin Drew and great-grandson Alex (played by real-life son Jake McGann) however he finds himself on a misson. The Time Lords have uncovered fragments of an insane plot to destroy the universe. And somehow a the centre of that plot is one random female in Earth’s history Molly O’ Sullivan.
Soon, the Doctor and Molly find themselves thrown headlong into a series of dangerous and terrifying adventures, with the dreaded Daleks never far behind them.
Dark Eyes consists of four separate stories:
Part One: The Great War
Part Two: Fugitives
Part Three: Tangled Web
Part Four. ‘X’ and the Daleks
Also just released is UNIT: DOMINION. Featuring Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor. This also marks the first time since the Seventh Doctor Lost Stories to feature the character Raine Creevy. A character that was supposed to make it’s debut on television in the ultimately unmade Season 27. This is also a unique audio title for Big Finish because it also marks the first adventure outside of Doctor Who: Unbound which Big Finish introduces a future incarnation of the Doctor in the form of Alex MacQueen in their ongoing Doctor Who series.
The universe stands on the brink of a dimensional crisis – and the Doctor and Raine are pulled into the very epicentre of it. Meanwhile, on Earth, UNIT scientific advisor Dr Elizabeth Klein and an incarnation of the Doctor she’s never encountered before are tested to the limit by a series of bizarre, alien invasions. At the heart of it all is a terrible secret, almost as old as the Time Lords themselves. Reality is beginning to unravel and two Doctors, Klein, Raine and all of UNIT must use all their strength and guile to prevent the whole of creation being torn apart.
In Doctor Who’s ongoing series, Sylvester McCoy stars in #167 The Shadow Heart by Jonathan Morris. One empire has fallen and another has taken its place. The race known as The Wrath are expanding into new territory.
Only the Earth Empire stands in their way. It’s been fifty years since the Doctor last visited this sector of space. And one man in particular has been awaiting his return.
As the mistakes of his past come back to haunt him, and with a price on his head and bounty hunters on his tail, the Doctor is heading for a last reckoning.
The pieces are finally coming together. Somewhere deep within The Shadow Heart.
In Companion Chronicles, Peter Purves performs #7.05 Return of the Rocket Men by Matt Fitton. Once before the Doctor battled the sadistic Rocket Men and once before he won. But when the dreaded pirates of the skies raid a remote frontier planet, he’s not the only member of the TARDIS crew for whom they are old enemies.
Steven Taylor knows them well. Back in his days as a pilot, on his twenty first birthday, Steven’s ship was brought down by the malevolent Van Cleef. He barely escaped with his life. And now he’s going to have to go through that again.
But this time round, he knows what happens. And he knows there’s no way out. Steven Taylor has to make a choice. A choice where either way… he loses.
So stop on by Annie’s Book Stop of Worcester and pick up one of these great new audio titles. They make the perfect stocking stuffer to start off the gift-giving season!!
