Events Buzz: July Events and Sales at ABSW

heatwaveWith the heat wave this week, ABSW reminds everyone to make sure they are drinking enough water and staying wherever they can with air conditioning. You may as well make the most of it and sit somewhere cool with a book—and we do have air conditioning in the store.

This weekend Patty will have a table at NECON, in Rhode Island, the Northeastern Writers Conference. If you’re going, make sure you stop by!

Other fun store news: We’ve gotten the first of several shipments of new Doctor Who toys and action figures, ahead of the usual additional flurry of exciting exclusives premiering at Comic-Con International [known colloquially as SDCC]. So, if you’re not heading out to San Diego, you can get your Who fix—with some very special releases–right in Worcester. Watch our blog for more details on the non-SDCC toys that have already arrived…. We have to wait until after SDCC before announcing this year’s SDCC Who exclusive.

We’re also running several coupons and sales for the month of July, from discounts on audio books to double credit on any returns of Magic Tree House books, from magazine sales to additional savings for teachers’ special orders!  Want to find out more? Check out the coupons on our website!

And if you’re looking for something to do these hot summer days, we’ve got several great events coming up!

Worcester Storytellers returns on Friday, July 26from 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM for their thriving Open Mic. The featured reader, D.M. Roberts, will share from her debut novel Letting Go and Holding On, which takes her research on violence in youth and mass shootings and presents it through a fictional tale.

Then, Saturday evening, July 27 from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM, Eric James Aubin will be giving a talk and signing his debut book, The Dispensary, a non-fiction romp through the world of hair salons from the viewpoint of those you trust with your hair and appearance. Extremely funny and cutting, stop in to find out what your hairdressers really think about you! Eric is also offering some special prizes of hair care product, including some Moroccan Oil, for attendees.

And on Sunday, July 28 from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM, Claudia Dillaire will be visiting to talk about Egyptian Magic, her nonfiction books on the topic, and the research she did for her mystery set in Ancient Egypt. Claudia is a practicing pagan with over twelve years of experience in researching Egyptian magic and culture, which she shares in her three books.

Stay tuned for our August announcements and don’t forget to also visit us on Wednesdays at 7PM, ABSW hosts Spinning Yarns, a chance for you to work on your favorite craft – be it knitting, crocheting, scrapbooking, writing, or whatever – while listening to an audiobook or audio play.  Join us for a relaxing evening listening to good literature!

As always, thank you for your continued support of our independent bookstore at 65 James Street, Worcester, MA, and may your world always be full of wonderful words!
