Events Buzz: Fall is HERE!

Doorways CoverHappy Autumn!

September is rounding to a close, and we’ve officially turned summer into fall, but your Annie’s Book Stop of Worcester on 65 James Street is hardly slowing down.  Take a look at what we’ve got for the rest of this month, as well as a sneak peek for our October events.

Thursday, September 26

12-3 PM

Offsite shopping event at Tatnuck Park nursing home with a special selection of books for those who may not be able to visit us.

7-9 PM

Meet four local authors from the Doorways to Extra Time anthology will talk about what might happen if, in fact, someone wished for extra time–and got it.

Erick Nunnally was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. His recent successes include: publication of his book, Blood For The Sun; a comic strip collection, Lost in Transition; short stories in the anthologies Wicked Seasons, Inner Demons Out, and Doorways To Extra Time; two lovely children and one beautiful wife.

Walter H. Hunt is a science-fiction and historical-fiction writer, author
of four science fiction novels (The Dark Wing, The Dark Path, The Dark
Ascent
, and The Dark Crusade), a novel about the Order of the Temple (A
Song In Stone
), and the forthcoming Elements of Mind, about the world of
19th century mesmerism. He also writes with Eric Flint in Baen’s shared
universe, 1632.

Rich Storrs has been a singer, a drummer, a camp counselor, an outdoor education instructor, and a classroom teacher, in addition to being a book editor for Spencer Hill Press. He enjoys cooking, trivia, and finding ways to use the word “rutabega” in conversation. Rich lives with his wife, his son, and a very fluffy black cat.

Trisha J. Wooldridge of Auburn, Massachusetts writes about bad-ass faeries, angry mermaids, carnivorous horses, sexy phoenixes—and mundane stuff like wine, beer, food, hay-eating horses, Goth bands, and horror stars. Her first novel, The Kelpie, will be available December 2013 from Spencer Hill Press.

Friday, September 27th, 7-8:30 PM

Worcester Storytellers returns for their monthly open mic. As this is the one-year anniversary of the group’s rebirth, there will be three surprise features!

Monday, September 30th, 7-8:30 PM

ABSW is starting a new regular event: The On Pointe Book Salon. The OPBS is open to men, women…anyone who loves books and wants to talk about books. You can read whatever you want, share whatever you want from the reading experience, and hear what others are reading and loving (or not-loving, because sometimes there are books we don’t like!).  The Salon will continue to be the last Monday of every month. To sign up and find out more, email Sean at onpointebooksalon@gmail.com. Keep an eye on our website events page, blog, and Facebook for more information!

OCTOBER

Friday, October 4th, 7-9 PM

Glitter, Mayhem, Browncoats, and Time Lords come to party at ABSW. Guests include K. Tempest Bradford, Julia Rios, Jennifer Pelland, Susan Jane Bigelow, Lynne M. Thomas, and Michael Damian Thomas – winners and nominees of Hugos, Nebulas, and more.  Also, cool kids to party with. The books are Glitter & Mayhem, an anthology of short fiction that spans dance clubs and roller derbies leaving people covered in blood and sparkles; Whedonistas, a collection of women’s essays looking at pop culture mastermind Joss Whedon; Chicks Dig Time Lords, Chicks Unravel Time, and Queers Dig Time Lords, three anthologies that look at women’s and queer perspectives of the longest-running science fiction serial of all time, Doctor Who.

Saturday, October 26th, 11AM-9PM

Spooooky Story Time! Celebrate Halloween [and Patty’s birthday] as the staff of ABSW, our friends, and a few special guests spend the day reading our favorite Halloween classics! All ages welcome. Do you have a favorite Halloween story? See us if you want to join and share it, too!

Of course, don’t forget that every Wednesday we still host Spinning Yarns, a chance for crafty folk to indulge in their preferred crafts–knitting, crocheting, sewing, scrapbooking, writing, etc.–while listening to an audiobook or audio drama! Currently, we’re listening to Robert B. Parker’s High Profile.

So, come visit your Annie’s Book Stop of Worcester, the bookstore that’s bigger on the inside, and may your world be full of wonderful words!
