Author Spotlight: Jennifer Allis Provost

01242014 - Jenn AP CoverAnnie’s Book Stop of Worcester gladly welcomes Jennifer Allis Provost to our local author spotlight blog.  Jenn is the author of Copper Girl, currently available at ABSW, as well as a connoisseur of all things Celtic, mythic, kilted, and fey… along with a healthy share of zombies and coffee love. She is currently working on a campaign to fulfill the dream of her epic fantasy, Chronicles of Parthalan brought to the beautiful life she envisions for it.

So, Jenn, what’s currently going on in your fantastic writing worlds?

I am relaunching my epic fantasy series, The Chronicles of Parthalan, in 2014! Here’s a link to my Indiegogo site: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-chronicles-of-parthalan

Hooray! For those less familiar with you or your work, can you tell us a little more?

I write books about fairies, orcs, and elves, along with the occasional zombie and time-traveling barista. I’ve been making up stories as long as I can remember, but my first attempt at a novel was a fantasy epic I began in the eighth grade. I trunked it, only to stumble upon it fifteen years later and fall in love all over again. That badly typed manuscript became my Chronicles of Parthalan series.

What can readers expect from The Chronicles of Parthalan?01242014 - Jenn AP Phot

The Chronicles of Parthalan is a fully realized fantasy world that has been percolating in the back of my mind for over twenty years. There’s a pantheon of gods and the associated religious system, neighboring races fraught with political intrigue, and I created two—that’s right, two—languages for the inhabitants: one of the gods and one for the elves.  I labored to make each race and culture distinct unto itself.

What kind of research went into writing this book?  What is your favorite research story? What cool facts and findings didn’t make it into the book, but you loved discovering?

For this answer, I won’t refer to The Chronicles of Parthalan, but to my current WIP [work-in-progress], Gallowglass. When I realized that Robert, who spent his life as a 17th century minister, would never have worn a kilt, my heart fell a little. Okay, a lot.

While you’re writing, do you prefer music, silence, other? Please elaborate! 01242013 - coppergirlcover

Silence! I need to hear my characters.

What is something that most people don’t realize about you?

In my day job, I am an insurance professional, complete with a suit and sensible shoes. I handle corporate board meetings with aplomb and regularly amaze our shareholders with my knowledge of Star Wars trivia. Not that anything about Star Wars is trivial.

Are there any groups, clubs, or organizations that you would recommend to other writers that have helped you in your career?

Broad Universe, of course. If you are a female writer of speculative fiction, they have your back.  Learn more here: http://broaduniverse.org/

Where can people find your work? (Besides ABSW ;)–though they should totally check here first!)

My work is available wherever fine books are sold; so yes, Amazon, B&N, Books-A-Million, etc. And YES, your local indie bookstore can definitely order them!

How can we follow your work, share your awesomeness, or otherwise stalk you in a totally non-creepy way?
