March is a time for many celebrations special to ABSW. Women’s History Month. World Read Aloud Day or Read Across America Day. The Ides of March. St. Patrick’s Day (Thank you, Audrey Nicholson, for your lovely event last Saturday!) and many, many more!
Of course, our Celtic-loving patrons have already made a good dent in our Irish and Celtic-themed books—thank you! We’re trying to get a more in, now! Fortunately, if you missed Audrey’s talk on her novel, Celtic Knots, we still have a few more copies for you to get now.
In celebration of Women’s History Month, we’ve got three women of myth and wonder visiting us on Sunday, March 23, from 2-4 PM. Terri-Lynne DeFino, Francesca Forrest, and T. J. Wooldridge will be hosting a panel to talk about the fables, folktales, and more that they researched and created for their novels and stories.
We’ll be finishing up the month of March with the Worcester Storytellers regular Open Mic night on Friday, March 28, from 7-8:30 PM, who will be mixing things up with some poetry! The featured reader will be Richard Fox, who will be sharing from his poetry collection Time Bomb.
Of course, even though March is just beginning, we’ve got some wonderful plans for April—”the cruelest month.”
Come the weekend of April 26-27, we are hosting a TWO DAY event. The Dark Carnival of Authors. Last year, we held this event to a lot of positive feedback. We used it as a fundraiser to help Holly Newstein Hautala after the unexpected death of her husband Rick Hautala. With the success of our fundraising efforts, we at ABSW have decided to make this a regular fundraising event to help members of the horror community—and we’ve extended it to cover the whole weekend!
The recipient of award will be another local member of the horror community…stay tuned for the announcement of who. And for which wonderfully dark authors you can expect so see this weekend!
Just before the Dark Carnival, on Friday April 25 from 7-8:30 PM, you can also enjoy the monthly open mic with Worcester Storytellers, which will feature Diane V. Mulligan reading from her latest novel, The Latecomers Fan Club.
Join us in the many celebrations of March and April at ABSW at 65 James Street!
And may your world be filled with wonderful words.
