My name is Selina Lovett, and I work part time at Annie’s doing Marketing and Special Events, and anything else that needs to get done at the moment. I also work part time at Drumlin Farm, a major Mass Audubon property in Lincoln, MA. I am an avid reader, and love movies. I have also been a Science Fiction/Fantasy Fan since I was 16 years old, and I can tell you that I am a LOT older than that now! I have now branched out into reading Romances and Cozy (mostly cat) Mysteries. Someday I would like to write a book (wouldn’t we all??), but right now one of my 2 cats sits on my computer every time I try!

The book I love and would recommend for a gift is not actually one book, it’s a series: The Guardians of Childhood by William Joyce.

Move over Harry Potter, there’s a new wizard in town! His name is Ombric, and he is one of the Guardians of Childhood. The other Guardians are Nicholas St. North; a Girl named Katherine; Nightlight, a spectral being; E.Aster Bunnymund, a 7 foot tall Bunny; The Tooth Fairy; Jack Frost; and Sanderson Mansnoozie, a.k.a. the Sandman. They were made Guardians of all the Children of Earth by the Man in the Moon, to protect them from a being named Pitch, whose goal in life was to give nightmares to all children.

There are Picture books in the series for younger children. They are: The Man in the Moon, which first introduces the story and the reason behind the need for the Guardians; The Sandman; and Jack Frost.

The Chapter Books for older children are: Nicholas St. North and the Battle of the Nightmare King; E. Aster Bunnymund and the Warrior Eggs at the Earth’s Core; Toothiana, Queen of the Tooth Fairy Armies and the latest book, The Sandman and the War of Dreams.

By the way, the Guardians series has been made into a movie, Rise of the Guardians!

I love each and every book because each stand on their own. Each book contains the revelation of a new Guardian and an encounter with Pitch. The books really capture the spirit of the characters, and they portray them in a new light. The writing is wonderful, and the books are great for both children and adults. There is suspense, action, comedy, drama, anything you would want in a book! Unless you want to have nightmares, get it. Now!
