Happy Leap Day, everyone!

We hope everyone is enjoying this extra day and doing something a little fun or wacky!

As for us, we’re using the extra day to get ready for March, where we are “Mad for Plaid” and celebrating Women’s History Month. Check out our displays for this month’s themes when you stop in.

In our great news category, more of our friends and past guests for ABSW events are up for major literary awards! The 2016 Stoker nominations for best in Horror literature were recently released, and we’d like to congratulate Paul Tremblay, who is up for Superior Achievement in a Novel for Head Full of Ghosts; John McIlveen, who is up for Superior Achievement in a First Novel for Hannahwhere; and Christopher Golden, who is up for Superior Achievement in an Anthology for Seize the Night. Good luck to all of you!

Also, if you haven’t yet seen them, take a look at these beautiful handmade Afghan throws by local artisan Eva. We have them hanging up with our artisan hand towels by our local author display. It’s still a little damp and chilly, so grab one to snuggle with while reading.

Thank you to everyone who came out this weekend for Liz Mugavero’s release of her latest Pawsitively Organic novel. Her dog, Shaggy, was pleased with all the extra love this weekend, too! If you were unable to attend this weekend, we do still have some signed stock of her cozy pet mysteries, so stop in to grab them.

TODAY, Monday, February, 29, from 7:00 – 8:00 PM, we are hosting the Free People’s Artists Workshop, co-sponsored by the Worcester County Poetry Association. Join us for an evening of networking and critiquing with local artists.

As for THIS WEEKEND

On Friday, March 4, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, we are happy to host the inaugural Rainbow Readers Youth LGBTQA Book Club. Focusing on books for teens by LGBTQA authors or about LGBTQA topics, this first meeting is an open discussion of our favorite books, what we want to read, and more.

And – UPDATED – on Sunday, March 6, from 2:00-4:00 PM, we are hosting author Sharon Legasey and illustrator Monique Legasey-Pappas as they share their work for Sharon’s debut middle grade novel, The House of Wonder.

Sharon Ross Legasey’s storytelling began at age twelve while she was babysitting, and her literary appreciation continued through her motherhood as she told bedtime stories. She is a member of the Spencer Writer’s Group and the Worcester County Poetry Association.

Monique Legasey-Pappas founded the Creative Communication Art Studio in 1999, and in addition to teaching all ages, she does private artwork and designs special art works for the Millbury and Leicester Fire Departments. The House of Wonder is her second publication.

The House of Wonder tells the story of fifteen-year-old Rosalie O’Houlihan, who follows an odd birdsong up Maine’s Mount Megunticook to a mysterious house hidden in the trees. On the way, she finds herself on a mystical adventure through history that challenges her bravery, confidence and determination as she unlocks the mystery behind an old promise.

Of course, it is still New England, so keep an eye on our website and Facebook page (even linked here and at the bottom of the email for your convenience) to check for any changes in our hours or events due to inclement weather.
