08082016 - Star Trek Books

August continues to be a fun month for the bookstore and patrons. The weather, of course is being August-y and New Englandy, changing every five minutes or so from thunderstorms to heatwaves to perfect gorgeousness—so, whether you want to be prepared for a storm day or a beach day, stop in and see what we’ve got for books! In fact, we’re kicking back up our “New Arrivals” Thursday blog post this week with a hot new title that just came in…

Speaking of titles we have in that are hot—we are almost out of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts 1 & 2, so if you want to grab your copy before we’re out, stop in soon!

Also, for our friends and patrons who are Star Trek fans—long-time or fresh with the new movies—we have put together a special Star Trek cart for you! Come in and browse the long, beautiful collection of books that take us deeper into the Federation words and even further beyond where no one has gone before.

We want to thank everyone who came out to our Rainbow Readers Youth LGBTQA Book Club. We thoroughly enjoyed sharing Aristotle and Donte Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz. If you missed it, though, we do still have some more copies in stock.

This week…

We have two events THIS SATURDAY, August 13.

First, our Rainbow Readers Book Club presents a special event with author Jamie Fessenden, who writes gay and bisexual romance novels, as well as YA novels under James Erich. He’ll be giving a reading and a talk from 3:00 – 5:00 PM, as well as signing many of his titles.

Jamie Fessenden set out to be a writer in junior high school. He published a couple short pieces in his high school’s literary magazine and had another story place in the top 100 in a national contest, but it wasn’t until he met his partner, Erich, almost twenty years later, that he began writing again in earnest. With Erich alternately inspiring and goading him, Jamie wrote several screenplays and directed a few of them as micro-budget independent films. He then began writing novels and published his first novella in 2010.

And then, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, we will host the regular Rainbow Readers LGBTQA Book Club for a discussion of The Secret Casebook of Simon Feximal by KJ Charles.

And next week, we want to give you plenty of time to plan…

August 14-20 – Educator Appreciation Week – Teachers, homeschoolers, and other educators, let us show you how much we appreciate all the work you do by giving you an ADDITIONAL 10% off of our always-available 10% off discount for educators. This means you’ll save from 40%-70% off cover price for new and used book. Just bring in some form of proof or educator ID or certification, and we’ll give our thanks in savings.

After that, we have…

Sunday, August 21, 3:00 – 5:00 PM – Brains in Books Round Table Discussion with author and psychologist Laura Diamond and author T.J. Woodridge

Friday, August 26, 7:00 – 8:30 PM – Worcester Storytellers

Monday, August 29, 7:00 PM – Free People’s Artists Workshop

And, as a reminder, here are our regular events…
