Events Buzz: November is Here

cornucopia-trans-colorHappy November! We hope everyone finds many things to be thankful for this month. Do know that we at our little “bigger on the inside” bookstore at 65 James Street in Worcester are very thankful for all of you!

We had a lovely Halloween last week, with folks coming in wearing costumes for our grab-bag treats! It was great to see you all.

Starting on Sunday, November 20, we will have extended Holiday Hours:

Sunday: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM

Monday – Thursday: 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM

Friday – Saturday: 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM

Now that we’re in November, we are right in the midst of National Novel Writing Month, and we’ll be hosting Write-Ins with snacks at our store every Thursday (except Thanksgiving, as we’ll be closed), from 12:00 – 5:00 PM. We have also added another Write-In on Sunday, November 20, from 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM.

THIS WEEK, we have our Rainbow Readers Youth and our Rainbow Readers book club meetings. THIS FRIDAY, November 11, from 4:00 – 6:00 PM, Rainbow Readers Youth discusses Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertali. And THIS SATURDAY,  November 12, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Rainbow Readers of Massachusetts discusses Roller Girl by Vanessa North. We have both books in the store for purchase, and you don’t have to have finished them to join in on the discussion!

Unfortunately, we have had to postpone Put Some Scares into…: Horror Authors Pete Kahle and Tom Deady. The NEW DATE AND TIME for this event is Saturday, December 17, from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM.

Thursday, November 17, 7:00 – 8:00 PM – Doctor Who Discussion Night. We’ll be discussing historical figures our favorite Doctor encounters.

SPECIAL EVENT: Saturday, November 19, ALL DAY – Annual Doctor Who Anniversary Celebration! Costumes, trivia, games, prizes, and more—come celebrate television’s longest-running serial program at ABSW.

NEW LISTING: Friday, November 25, 7:00 – 8:30 – Worcester Storytellers Features Nicole Waybright. Join us for our regular open mic followed by featured reader! Nicole recently finished her narrative nonfiction work in which she tells the true story of her coming-of-age struggles while deployed as an officer on a U.S. Navy destroyer.

SPECIAL EVENT: Saturday, November 26, ALL DAY – Small Business Saturday with Worcester Writers Collaborative ABSW teams up woth local author group, Worcester Writers Collaborative, to bring you a day full of readings, signings, and talks with local authors from all genres. Support your local businesses; support your local autors!

NEW LINK: Sunday, November 27, 3:00 – 5:00 PM – Author and Secular Horrorist Bracken MacLeod is Stranded at ABSW Acclaimed horror and thriller author, Bracken MacLeod, reads, takes Q&A, and signs at ABSW.

As a reminder, here are our regular events…

Spinning Yarns Craft and Audiobook Social, every Monday 7:00 PM (except for when the Free People’s Artists Workshop meets the fourth Monday of the month). Bring a craft and enjoy an audiobook or audio drama with other crafty booklovers!

Worcester Storytellers, the fourth Friday of every month from 7-8:30 PM. The November 25 event features Nicole Waybright, a narrative non-fiction author. For the complete updates and schedules, follow Worcester Storytellers on Facebook!

The Free People’s Artists Workshop, the fourth Monday of each month from 7:00-9:00 PM. Networking and feedback from other artists and creators of all types. Co-sponsored by the Worcester County Poetry Association. Next meeting is Monday, November 28.

Doctor Who Talks, the third Thursday of every month from 7:00 – 8:00 PM. Join us for a discussion of our favorite science fiction serial. Every month will have a different topic! Next meeting, November 17.

Rainbow Readers Youth of Massachusetts is an LGBTQIA book club specific to teens, meeting once a month on first Fridays from 4:00-6:00 PM. Next meeting November 11.

The Rainbow Readers of Massachusetts is an LGBTQIA book club that will meet once a month on third Saturdays from 6:00-8:00 PM. Next meeting November 12.
