Events Buzz: News and Events in Bloom

Happy May! Have we got some great and important news and updates for you this blog/newsletter!

First and foremost, if you are receiving our newsletter…

THIS IS THE LAST NEWSLETTER IN THIS FORMAT!

That’s right! We’re giving our email list a long-needed overhaul. We’re switching to MailerLite, which has a lot of excellent privacy settings, an easy way to manage our subscribers, and cool ways to offer BONUS SALES AND COUPONS to our newsletter subscribers!

So, if you want to keep on getting our newsletter—or if you want to start (and get three BONUS coupons in the next week!) click on the below link to sign up!

We’re also starting to get Summer Reading Lists already! Do you have a summer reading list for your student? Bring it into the store and we can make sure we have the books you all need this summer!

Also, there is only a few more days to donate to Worcester, The City That Reads. The donation box will be by the register through May 15. Donate new or gently used books for PreK through 8th Grade, and they will be distributed to Worcester students for summer reading. To find out more, check out www.worcesterreads.org.

A big “Thank you!” to all who came out to our two events this past weekend! We had a great time with Anna Belle Rose’s strong heriones and sweet romance novels, and Lisa Rosinsky, who debuted her YA novel, Inevitable and Only, was a lot of fun to hang out with!

If you have enjoyed our events or the time you’ve spent in our little store, consider leaving us a review on TripAdvisor or leaving us a review on Yelp. You can also review us on Facebook!

So what’s happening THIS WEEK at our 65 James Street location?

THIS FRIDAY, May 11, from 7:00 – 9:00 PM, Jim Zebrowski Returns for Another Astronomy Night.

On Friday, May 15, from 7:00 – 9:00 PM, Annie’s Book Stop of Worcester welcomes Jim Zebrowski of the Aldrich Astronomical Society for An Evening of Astronomy at Annie’s Book Stop of Worcester. At our 65 James Street address, Jim will put together several hands-on, participatory presentations about stars and planets, and if weather and lighting permit, there will even be guided stargazing through telescopes!

And THIS SATURDAY, May 12, from  1:00 – 3:00 PM, come out and Experience Amateur (Ham) Radio for All Ages.

Members of two local Amateur (HAM) Radio clubs will talk about their experiences with HAM Radio, and give a hands-on demonstration of what HAM Radio Operators do.

HAM Radio is the pre-cursor to the Internet, and even now, is a dependable form of communication when the Internet and electricity are unavailable. Yet many people use HAM Radio in tandem with the Internet for meeting people all over the world, weather reporting, and disaster assistance. HAM Radio communities are their own social media, often having contests for those with the most or the furthest contacts.

A partial “HAM Shack” will be set up at Annie’s Book Stop of Worcester, and attendees will be able to try their skills at using this fascinating (and by no means old-fashioned!) form of communication. All ages are welcome; there is a HAM operator who is six years old and some in their 90s.
